SUBJECT
N16 Service Engine Soon Lamp Illuminated: DME FC 2D9B Knock Sensor Signal
MODEL
All with the N16 engine produced from 8/1/2010
SITUATION
The Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated with the following fault code stored in the DME memory:
2D9B: Knock sensor - signal
In addition to the 2D98 knock sensor fault, any of the following fault code entries may also be stored:
2F1A: coolant temperature sensor - signal
2F19: coolant temperature sensor - signal
2F15: coolant temperature sensor - plausibility
2F16: coolant temperature sensor - plausibility
2F22: engine temperature - plausibility
CAUSE
The knock sensor is not installed properly or the thermostat is faulty.
CORRECTION
A. Check that the knock sensor is positioned correctly, mounted with a torque of 20 Nm, and that the electrical connection is clean and secured. Refer to ISTA - REP 12 14 600.
B. If no problems are found with the knock sensor then replace the thermostat only.
Note:
When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.
