Foot Pedal

Foot Pedal

Brief component description

Brake light / brake light test switch
Two switches are fitted on the brake pedal which supply the following signals:
- S_BLS brake light switch
- S_BLTS Brake light test switch

The CAS/FEM control unit evaluates these signals for the purpose of registering brake operation. The CAS/FEM control unit transmits the signals via a CAN bus to the DME/DDE control unit.
The brake light switch connects to ground, the brake light test switch connects to positive. Both signals are checked for plausibility.
The following table shows how the signals behave:

Clutch module (manual gearbox only)
A switch is fitted on the clutch pedal for the purpose of registering clutch operation on vehicles with manual gearboxes. The switch has two gearshift positions:
- 10% position
This position is required for the cruise control and automatic engine start-stop functions. The signal is transmitted via its own line to the DME/DDE control unit and evaluated there.

- 90% position
This position is required for the starter lock. The signal is transmitted via its own line to the CAS/FEM control unit and evaluated there. The signal is then transmitted via a CAN bus to the DME/DDE control unit.

The following tables show how the signals are switched:

MINI and BMW vehicles:

Accelerator pedal module
The position of the accelerator pedal is reported to the DME/DDE control unit via analog voltage signals. The signals are generated by two pedal sensors in the accelerator pedal module.
The pedal sensors take their 5 V power supply and ground connection from the DME/DDE control unit. Depending on the operating angle, the pedal sensors return various voltages to the DME/DDE control unit. The DME/DDE control unit converts the voltage signals into the pedal sensor position.
The signal of pedal sensor 2 always has half the signal voltage of pedal sensor 1.
The idle, full load and kickdown positions are detected by way of voltages of the pedal sensors.

Fault handling
The pedal sensors are monitored for short circuit and open circuit, as well as for plausibility in relation to one another.
