Seat Heating

Seat heating
The seat heating is offered as optional equipment.

Brief component description
Descriptions of the following seat heating components are provided:
- Switch panel
- Integrated automatic heating and air conditioning (IHKA), standard heating and air conditioning (IHKS), integrated heater control (IHS)
- Junction Box Electronics (JBE)
- Heating element

Switch panel
The seat heating is activated by the outer buttons on the switch panel. The seat heating can be set to three temperature levels. A indicator light lights up in the button for each temperature level selected. The button signals are evaluated by the IHKA.

Integrated automatic heating / air conditioning system (IHKA)
One of the heating systems listed above can be chosen for installation in the vehicle. This document covers the integrated automatic heating and air conditioning (IHKA) equipment specification. The IHKA processes the switch panel button signals. The IHKA sends a message to the junction box electronics (JBE) through the body controller area network.

Junction Box Electronics (JBE)
The JBE provides the electrical supply to the seat modules. For each temperature level selected, the JBE generates a pulse-width modulated signal to activate the heating elements.

Heating element
The seat heating comprises several heating elements. The heating element is made up of flexible electrical lines.
The heating elements are incorporated into the seat and backrest covers on the driver and front passenger seats.
The heating element warms the seat cover of the seat surface and the backrest.

System functions
The following system functions are described for the seat heating:
- Heat up seat heating
- Monitor seat heating
- Cool down or switch off seat heating

Heat up seat heating
The seat heating is activated by pressing on the relevant button in the switch panel. Pressing the button again changes the seat heating output level. Indicator lights in the button identify the temperature level that has been set.

Monitor seat heating
The seat heating is monitored by a temperature sensor (NTC resistor). It is located in the seat heating element. The temperature sensor monitors the temperature and guards against overheating.

Cool down or switch off seat heating
The seat heating is switched off by pressing the button until all the indicator lights go out. The seat heating can also be switched off by pressing and holding the button.
