Cooper S vehicles with automatic transmission produced at the beginning of July 2011 as identified by VIN (see attachment)

SITUATION
A number of Cooper S vehicles with automatic transmission option 205 were inadvertently produced without the standard paddle shifters (option 2XA).

CAUSE
Vehicle option - ordering error

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This retrofit procedure only involves a limited number of R55, R56, R57, and R58 Cooper S vehicles with the AISIN automatic transmission, produced at the beginning of July 2011 without the option 2XA (paddle shifters). See the attached VIN list.

CORRECTION
Owners of all affected cars will be notified by mail that they can have the missing paddle shifters installed at their MINI dealer.

The repair consists of installing a new sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, SZL module to EGS module wiring harnesses, vehicle order modification (addition of option code 2XA), and complete vehicle coding and programming.

Verify that the vehicle is on the VIN list shown in this bulletin and submit a PuMA case entitled: "Retrofit missing MINI paddle shifters."

A modified vehicle order (VO) with the additional paddle shifter option 2XA, along with the necessary ISTA/P IBAC code, will be attached to the case.

A new sport steering wheel with paddle shifters and wiring harness kit will automatically be released as a VOR order by the PCG group for the dealer, specific to the VIN in the PuMA case.

Follow the workshop procedure as a attachment shown in this bulletin to carefully fit the two harnesses and install the new steering wheel with paddle shifter.

Load the modified VO, which was attached to the PuMA case, into ISTA/P and complete the modification.

A second ISTA/P session using the most current version will be necessary to perform a complete vehicle coding, as well as any necessary module programming as determined in the measures plan.
