SUBJECT
Rattling Noise from the Tailgate

MODEL
R58

Produced from August 2011 to July 2012

SITUATION
A rattling noise may be heard from the tailgate area when driving on rough roads.

CAUSE
The felt strip on the lower bump stop is either mis-shaped or missing.

PROCEDURE

1. Open the tailgate and locate both lower rubber bump stops.

2. If the felt tape on the bump stop is mis-shaped or missing, it must be replaced.

3. This close-up view shows the existing felt is mis-shaped and it will eventually fall off.

4. [NEW] Clean off the mating surface of the bump stop with a suitable cleaner. Cut a new piece of sliding tape (83 19 9 407 798) approximately 15mm by 20mm and apply to the flat area of the rubber bump, as shown. Trim off any excess tape with scissors. Repeat the same repair procedure for the opposite side.
