Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove floor console as follows:

a. Remove switch panel, suspension control switch and rear console harness connector, Fig. 2.
b. Remove side panel (A), then the rear console assembly.
c. On models with manual transmission, remove shift knob.
d. Remove transfer shift lever, then floor console harness connector.
e. Remove front console assembly. On models with automatic transmissions, set selector lever to "L position when removing console assembly.

3. Remove hood lock release and fuel filler door lock release handle, then instrument under and corner covers Fig. 3.
4. Remove glove compartment stopper, then the glove compartment assembly.
5. Remove center panel (A), heater control assembly, then radio.
6. Remove meter hood, meter bezel, then combination meter.

7. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission, remove lock of speedometer cable adapter from instrument panel. Fig. 4.
8. Pull cable slightly toward vehicle interior, then remove speedometer cable adapter.
9. Remove column cover, clock if equipped, side defroster garnish, then door mirror control switch.
10. Remove front speakers, rheostat, rear wiper and washer switch, then door lock switch.
11. Remove ventilation control wire, then harness connector.
12. Remove steering column attaching bolts, then panel assembly.
13. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:

a. When installing ventilation wire, set cool air bypass dial to closed position, Fig. 5.
b. Close cool air bypass lever at heater unit side.
c. Install wire and secure with clip.
