Knock Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Knock sensor is a Piezoelectric type unit which "listens" for engine pinging and sends a signal to the ECM when it is detected. The ECM uses these signals to determine when and how much to alter ignition timing advance to eliminate engine ping.
