READING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES USING THE OIL TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP

1. Use the special tool (diagnostic trouble code check harness), or a suitable jumper wire, to ground terminal No. 1 of the data link connector.

2. Take a reading of the diagnostic trouble codes from the flashing of the oil temperature warning lamp.

NOTE: Other diagnostic trouble codes (for the ECM) also are output by the flashing of the check engine warning lamp corresponding to the same code numbers as when using the scan tool.

3. Repair the malfunction while referring to the diagnostic charts for trouble codes.
4. Erase the diagnostic trouble codes by the following procedure:
a. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
b. After disconnecting the battery cable from the negative battery terminal for 10 seconds or more, re-connect the cable.
c. Turn the ignition switch to ON, take a reading of the diagnostic trouble code output and check that a normal code is output.
d. After the engine has warmed up, run it at idle for about 10 minutes.
