Removal and Replacement
1. Remove transfer control lever assembly, transfer case protector and front exhaust pipe.2. Drain transmission and transfer case fluid into a suitable container, then remove front and rear driveshafts.

3. Remove transmission in numbered sequences shown, Figs. 8 and 9, noting the following:
a. Before removing transmission roll stopper, transmission and transfer case assembly must be supported with a suitable jack.
b. Move transmission away from engine carefully. When transmission and engine have been separated slightly, push torque converter assembly onto transmission side so that it can be removed with transmission.
c. Note control housing bolt lengths and positions for installation reference.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Remove all old adhesive from control housing and bolts, then apply 3M Stud Locking Compound No. 4170, or equivalent, to bolt threads.
b. Refer to Figs. 8 and 9 for transmission to engine bolt tightening specifications. Specifications vary according to bolt size and location.
c. Adjust control cables as necessary when installation is complete.
