Connector Measurement Service Points

CONNECTOR MEASUREMENT SERVICE POINTS
Turn the ignition switch to "OFF" when connecting and disconnecting the connectors. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" when measuring it there are no instructions to the contrary.

IF INSPECTING WITH THE CONNECTOR CONNECTED (WITH CIRCUIT IN A CONDITION OF CONTINUITY)
Required Special Tools:
MB991222: Probe (contained in MB991223 Harness Set)
MD998459: Test Harness

Waterproof Connectors
Be sure to use special tool, MB991219. Never insert a test probe from the harness side, as this so will reduce the waterproof performance and result in corrosion.

Ordinary (non-waterproof) Connectors
Check by inserting the test probe from the harness side. Note that if the connector (control unit, etc.) is too small to permit insertion of the test probe, it should not be forced; use special tool, MB991222 for this purpose.

IF INSPECTING WITH THE CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED

- When Inspecting from Front of the Connector Use special tool, MB991219.
The inspection harness for connector pin contact pressure should be used. The test probe should never be forcibly inserted, as it may cause a defective contact.

- When Inspecting from Back of Connector (SRS-ECU Harness Connector)
Required Special Tool:
MB991222:
Inspection Harness
(Contained in MB991223 Harness Set)
The SRS-ECU harness connector has been plated to improve continuity. So, inspection should be carried out by the following procedure.

WARNING: Insert the special tool MB991222 (narrow probe in the harness set) into connector from harness side (rear side), and connect the tester to this probe. If any to other than the special tool MB991222 is used, it may cause damage to the harness and other components. Furthermore, measurement should not be carded out by touching the probe directly against the terminals from the front of the connector. The terminals are plated to increase their conductivity, so that if they are touched directly by the probe, the plating may break, which will cause drops in reliability.

CAUTION: At this time, be careful not to short the connector pins with the test probes. To do so may damage the circuits inside the ECU.
Touch the pin directly with the test bar.
