Inspection Procedure P-4

INSPECTION PROCEDURE P-4: ETACS-ECU Does Not Receive Any Signal From The Liftgate Latch.

Liftgate Latch Input Circuit (Part 1):

Liftgate Latch Input Circuit (Part 2):

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates the following functions or systems according to signal from the liftgate latch:
- Door ajar warning tone alarm
- Keyless entry system
- Timed locking mechanism
- Dome light
- Interior light automatic shutoff function
- Door ajar indicator
- Theft-alarm system
- Liftgate
- Glass hatch

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
If the signal is not normal, the functions or systems described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" do not work normally. If the signal is not normal, the liftgate latch or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- The liftgate latch may be defective
- The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
- The ETACS-ECU may be defective

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tool:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- MB992006: Extra Fine Probe

STEP 1. Check liftgate latch connector F-12 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q: Is liftgate latch connector F-12 in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 2.

NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the liftgate latch should be normal.

STEP 2. Check the liftgate latch.

Remove the liftgate latch. Then check continuity between the liftgate latch terminal and the body ground.

Q: Is the liftgate latch in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 3.

NO: Replace the liftgate latch. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the liftgate latch should be normal.

STEP 3. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-218 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.

Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-218 in good condition?

YES: Go to Step 4.

NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the liftgate latch should be normal.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness between liftgate latch connector F-12 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-218 (terminal 62).

- Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

NOTE: Also check intermediate connectors C-30 and F-02 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connectors C-30 or F-02 are damaged.

Q: Is the wiring harness between liftgate latch connector F-12 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-218 (terminal 62) in good condition?

YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. When the ETACS-ECU is replaced, register the encrypted code. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the liftgate latch should be normal.

NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. If the functions described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION" work normally, the input signal from the liftgate latch should be normal.
