Vacuum Hose Assembly and Control Valve Installation
Figure 3:
1. Obtain the vacuum hose assembly and the Vacuum Control Valve (VCV) from the Emissions kit. Connect the blue striped vacuum hose to the blue Vacuum Control Valve nipple. Connect the red striped and long white striped vacuum hoses to the nipples with corresponding red and white dots on the VCV (Figure 3).
Figure 4:
2. Figure 4 gives you a preview of the connection points of the hose assembly: the short green striped and the short white striped vacuum hose are connected to the upper vacuum solenoid valve; the remaining end of the short green hose goes to the Air Control Valve; The shorter white striped hose connects to the white striped vacuum hose before the vacuum "TEE"; the longer white striped hose "TEES" into the white vacuum hose after the existing vacuum tee; the long green striped hose connects the upper solenoid valve vent port to the vacuum switch green striped hose.
Figure 5:
3. Remove and discard the green-striped hose that connects the Air Control Valve and the inboard nipple of the upper solenoid valve (Figure 5).
Figure 6:
4. Disconnect the white striped vacuum hose from the outboard nipple of the upper solenoid valve (Figure 6).
Figure 7:
5. Connect the new shorter green striped vacuum hoses to the Air Control Valve and to the Inboard vacuum nipple of the upper solenoid valve (Figure 7).
Connect the shorter white striped vacuum hose to the outboard vacuum nipple of the upper solenoid valve.
Figure 8:
6. Cut the removed white striped hose that was removed in step 4 about 4" from the end (Figure 8). Discard the cut end.
Figure 9:
7. Connect the red/white striped hose vacuum "TEE" to the newly cut end of the white striped vacuum hose (Figure 9).
Figure 10:
8. You will be making another cut in the existing white striped vacuum hose. Locate the existing vacuum "TEE". As shown in Figure 10, cut the existing white striped vacuum hose about 1-1/4" from the existing vacuum "TEE".
Figure 11:
9. Insert the vacuum tee in the new white striped hose (from the VCV) into both ends of the newly cut hose (Figure 11).
Figure 12:
10. Disconnect the upper solenoid electrical connector.
Remove and discard the Filter cover from the back of the upper solenoid valve (Figure 12). This will expose a vacuum port on the back of the solenoid.
Figure 13:
11. Install the new long green striped vacuum hose to the exposed vacuum port on the back of the upper solenoid valve (Figure 13).
Reconnect the upper solenoid electrical connector.
Secure the vacuum hose clamp to the existing vacuum hose.
Figure 14:
12. At the vacuum "TEE" end of the new long green striped vacuum hose remove and discard the short vacuum hose piece from the vacuum "TEE" (Figure 14).
Figure 15:
13. Cut the existing green striped vacuum hose leading from the vacuum switch to the carburetor about 1-1/2" from the carburetor (Figure 15).
NOTE: Do not remove the cut vacuum hose pieces.
Figure 16:
14. Insert the vacuum "TEE" into the cut hoses (Figure 16).
Figure 17:
15. Secure the long green striped vacuum hose to the water hose using the supplied cable band (Figure 17).
CAUTION: The cable band must be pointed in the direction as shown in Figure 17 in order to prevent interference with the carburetor.
Figure 18:
16. From the Emissions kit mount the bracket using the supplied bolt to the Air Control Valve (Figure 18). Torque to:
9-10.5 N-m (7-10 Ft.lbs.).
Figure 19:
17. Snap the Vacuum Control Valve into the bracket (Figure 19).
This completes the vacuum hose installation.
Figure 20:
18. Verify the following (Figure 20):
[ ] Short green striped vacuum hose connected to the Air Control Valve and the Inboard nipple of the upper solenoid valve.
[ ] Short white striped vacuum hose on the white/red striped vacuum hose unit connects to the outboard nipple of the upper solenoid valve and is "TEED" to the existing white striped vacuum hose.
[ ] The new white striped vacuum hose is "TEED" to the existing vacuum hose as shown in Figure 20.
[ ] One end of the long green striped vacuum hose is installed to the upper solenoid valve vent port.
[ ] The "TEE" end of the long green striped vacuum hose is "TEED" into the green striped vacuum hose leading from the Vacuum Switch.
[ ] Make certain the cable band secures the long green striped vacuum hose to the water hose, noting the direction of the clamp.
[ ] Finally make sure the bracket is mounted securely to the Air Control Valve.
