The air injection system, Fig. 44 consists of a secondary air control valve, reed valve, and a solenoid valve.
The secondary air control and reed valves supply secondary air into the front catalytic converter to promote oxidation and reduce exhaust emissions
The secondary air reed valve is actuated by exhaust vacuum generated from pulsations in exhaust manifold pressure.

The secondary air control valve, Fig. 89 is opened by intake manifold vacuum when the solenoid valve is energized by the ECU based on coolant temperature, intake air flow, engine speed, ignition switch "start" position, and idle position switch status.
