Basic Timing
Ignition Timing Adjustment:
NOTE: When adjusting timing, turn all lamps and accessories "OFF," place transmission in neutral, and ensure coolant temperature is at least 185° - 205°F (85° - 95°C). Set parking brake.
BASIC TIMING
10° ± 2° BTDC
1. Connect tachometer and timing light. Run engine at idle of 700 ± 100 BTDC.
2. At high altitude (over 3900 ft / 1200 m), stop engine and disconnect boost sensor connector.
3. Loosen mount nut and turn distributor as shown to adjust timing.
4. After adjustment, tighten nut and recheck timing.
5. After reconnecting boost sensor connector, disconnect battery negative terminal for at least 15 seconds. Restart engine and check that timing advances to actual engine timing.
ACTUAL TIMING
15° BTDC
