Engine Assembly Replacement


1. Remove battery, then drain coolant and transaxle oil.
2. Discharge refrigerant from A/C system, if equipped.
3. Drain power steering fluid.
4. Remove radiator reservoir and washer tanks.
5. Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses, then remove radiator.
6. Disconnect heater hoses, then remove battery tray.
7. Remove air cleaner assembly.
8. On vehicles equipped with turbocharger, remove turbocharger intake hose, then disconnect engine oil cooler hoses at engine.
9. On all models, disconnect brake booster vacuum hose.
10. On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect transaxle oil cooler hoses and cap hoses.
11. On vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle, disconnect clutch cable at transaxle. If equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect control cable from transaxle.
12. Disconnect refrigerant lines from compressor, if equipped.
13. On all models, disconnect accelerator cable, right fender engine ground, speedometer cable and power steering hoses.
14. Disconnect high tension cable and lead wire from ignition coil.
15. Disconnect battery ground cable from engine.
16. Disconnect alternator wiring and oil pressure gauge unit wire connectors.
17. Remove mounting screws of vacuum control unit and solenoid valve, then disconnect connector.
18. Disconnect hoses from purge control valve, then remove the purge control valve mounting screw.
19. Disconnect fuel return hose from carburetor or injection mixer, then disconnect fuel hose from fuel filter.
20. Raise and support front of vehicle, then disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold and position aside.
21. On vehicle equipped with manual transaxle, remove shift control rod, extension and range selector control cable.
22. Disconnect left and right strut bars and stabilizer bars at lower control arms.
23. Remove No. 2 crossmember to left and right lower control arm mounting bolts.
24. Remove driveshafts from transaxle case.
25. Using a rope, carefully lower control arms and driveshafts to No. 2 crossmember.
26. Using a suitable lifting device, lift engine enough to relieve weight from engine mounts.
27. Remove left mount insulator nut and front torque link upper mounting bolt on No. 1 crossmember side.
28. Remove rear torque link insulator mounting bolt.
29. Remove nuts which attach left mount insulator to fender.
30. Remove cap from within right fender shield.
31. Remove transaxle insulator bracket mounting bolts, then remove insulator from bracket and remove bracket.
32. Remove rear roll stopper insulator bolts and left mount bracket.
33. While directing transaxle side downward, lift engine and transaxle assembly out of vehicle.
34. Reverse procedure to install.
