ECI System Testing Procedures




INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR THE ECI SYSTEM

CAUTION: Perform this inspection after completion of all steps in "INSPECTION PROCEDURES (SELF-DIAGNOSIS)"

1. Turn ignition switch to OFF.
2. Remove cover from ECU.
3. Remove body side large harness connector (17 poles) and small harness connector (13 poles) from ECU.
4. Set check switch of ECI checker to OFF.
5. Set select switch of checker to A.




6. Connect the connectors of ECI Checker by using ECI Test harness to ECU and body harness connectors. Place ECI Checker on front passenger's seat.
7. Check output monitor operating condition (ON or OFF) by switching of ignition switch from OFF to ON. Monitor operating condition should be as follows:
Air flow sensor ON
Injector pulse OFF
Oxygen sensor OFF
8. Perform checks according to the "ECI System Check Procedure Chart".

CAUTION: A simple method for inspection of the injector is to use a screwdriver (with a hollow shaft) or acoustic tester in verifying the operating sound of the injector.

9. If checker shows any departure from specifications, check corresponding sensor and related electrical wiring, repair or replace.
10. After repair or replacement, recheck with ECI Checker to confirm that repaired or replaced part is performing well.




Air flow sensor and injector pulse may be inspected by output monitors as well, as shown in the table.

11. Set check switch of ECI checker to OFF.
12. Set ignition switch to OFF.
13. Disconnect connectors of ECI Checker from ECU and body side harness connectors.
14. Connect body side harness connectors to ECU.
15. Install ECU cover.
