SUBJECT:
GALANT POWER TRANSISTOR INSPECTION - SERVICE MANUAL REVISION
NO. TSB-89-08-003

DATE January, 1989

MODEL Galant

TSB Revision: TSB-89-08-003

PURPOSE

This bulletin is to inform you of a revision to the 1989 Galant Service Manual. In order to check the ignition power transistor, voltage needs to be applied to certain terminals. The service manual states that voltage should be 15 volts, which is incorrect and should be changed to 1.5 volts. Also, the polarity of a test meter is reversed in one procedure, and battery polarity is reversed in another, and need to be changed. As a reference to this bulletin, "TSB-89-08-003" in the TSB Revision box at the bottom of pages 8-221 and 8-225 in Volume 2 of the 1989 Galant Service Manual.

REVISIONS

1. The voltage required to operate the transistor switching circuit inside the power transistor is very low. The 15 volts specified in the Service Manual is incorrect, all that is necessary is a 1.5 volt dry cell battery as shown in the illustrations. Please make the changes shown below.
2. The first test procedure is reading continuity through the power transistor, and polarity of the test meter could affect results. Please change the polarity as shown below.
3. The second test procedure needs to have battery polarity reversed so that it will match the accompanying text in the Service Manual. Please make the changes as shown below.
