1989-93 Galant Service Manual, Vol. 1. For FWD: Pages 35-16 thru 35-33; for AWD, pages 35-34 thru 35-52.

Circuits and component locations are in Vol. 2, Pages 274-291.

Data Link Connector Location: under far left side of instrument panel. See Service Manual page 35-19. If communication is unsuccessful, try using adapter harness MD991377-01. (Refer to special scan tool instructions in this bulletin.)

Technical Service Bulletins:

1990 AWD models:
TSB-89-35-002 contains revised instructions for using the ABS Tester.

1989-92 models:
TSB-92-35-004 corrects resistance values for ABS solenoid valve. The correct values are 1.0 - 1.3 ohms.

TSB-93-3OO3: Pin 18 of the ECU does not go to ground as shown in the service manual but to a power source.

Notes:

1. The ABS Tester must be used for diagnosis of 1989-91 FWD models. The scan tool does not work on these cars.
2. Either the scan tool or the ABS Tester can be used for 1990-91 AWD Galants.
3. Early Nippon ABS could not communicate with the scan tool (Galant 89-91 FWD and 91 AWD). Use the ABS Tester instead. (Galants afier mid-1991 could communicate with the scan tool.)
4. Adapter harness MB991377-01 is not needed with MUT-II but may be used if communication problems are experienced between the scan tool and the ABS.

System Type: Mitsubishi Teves 3 channel.

TSB-95-35-006 corrects procedural steps in Vol. 1, pages 35B-13 and 14.

TSB-95-35-008 provides corrective action, part numbers and warranty information for intermittent illumination of ABS warning light in cold weather with DTC 4148, 51, 52 in in the ABS ECU.

Notes:

1. Use scan tool to see trouble codes. Or, push brake pedal 10 times in quick succession and watch for code from ABS light on dash.
2. If ABS light comes ON intermittently in cold weather, codes 41-48, 51, 52 may be set in the ABS ECU. For cars up to 12/94, replace the ECU with part no. MR260713. For cars after 12/94, use part no. MR260714. (See also TSB-95-35-008).
3. On 1994 Galant, look for an improperly grounded # 4 ground at the ABS ECU harness behind the front passenger kick panel if the scan tool shows codes 41-48.
