NO.: TSB-97-42A-012DATE: September, 1997
MODEL: All models
SUBJECT:
BUZZ, SQUEAK, AND RATTLE KIT
PURPOSE
A repair kit is now available for eliminating certain buzz, squeak, and rattle noises on all models. The kit contains felt material and urethane padding of various thicknesses to install where interior parts and components are loose or rubbing together. Plastic tape is also included in the kit to secure loose connectors and wiring harnesses.
PROCEDURE
1. Identify the source of the noise by test driving the vehicle. Sometimes the location of the noise can be determined by lightly tapping on the component (e.g., door panel).
2. Expose the suspected component by removing trim, etc.
Caution
DO NOT USE KIT MATERIALS IN AREAS OF THE VEHICLE EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES, SUCH AS NEAR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, EXHAUST PIPE. ETC.
NOTE:
Illustrations shown are examples only. Felt, padding, or tape installation location will vary depending on the noise to be eliminated.
IMPORTANT:
After installation, be sure that the kit material (felt, urethane padding, or tape) is not protruding and is not visible.
3. If plastic components are rubbing together and causing a buzzing or squeaking noise, cut a piece of non-woven felt (provided in the kit) to the appropriate size. Install the felt between the components.
4. If a loose connector, cable, or wiring harness is causing a buzz or rattle, cut a piece of urethane padding (provided in the kit) to the appropriate size to wrap around it.
5. Use the plastic tape provided in the kit to secure loose wiring harnesses and connectors.
6. Reinstall trim, etc., making sure that the kit material (felt, urethane padding, or tape) that was installed is not protruding and is not visible.
7. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the noise is eliminated.
