REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER PLATE/LABEL

PURPOSE

This bulletin provides procedures for ordering a replacement Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate and/or labels. These procedures apply to all dealers in all states and for all vehicles. Typically, a replacement plate/label may be needed if the vehicle was stolen or involved in an accident. The affected plate/label(s) are: the dash mounted VIN plate, the Vehicle Safety Certification Label (located on the B-pillar), and the Vehicle Information Code Plate (located in the engine area).

Note:
The dash mounted VIN plate is sent with special mounting rivets. These rivets MUST be used when attaching the plate.

INSTRUCTIONS

When a replacement VIN label/plate is required, the DEALER must:

1. Physically examine the vehicle. Verify the vehicle requires a replacement label/plate.





2. Photo-copy the form shown in this bulletin.

3. Fill in the form clearly and legibly. Provide all the necessary information.

4. Sign the statement which affirms the replacement VIN label/plate will be Installed on the specified vehicle.

5. Send the form and other required information to Technical Compliance Department at the address listed on the form by mail or fax.

Upon receipt of the information Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) will:

1. Verify the VIN using the vehicle master history file.

2. Request the replacement VIN plate/label from the appropriate manufacturer.

3. Receive the plate/label from the manufacturer.

MMSA's District Manager (Service, Sales, or Parts) will then:

1. Verify the replacement label/plate is being installed on the specified vehicle.

2. Fill out the lower section of the form, make any necessary copies1 and send the completed form back to MMSA's Technical Compliance Department.

Note:
Allow 3 to 6 weeks for label/plate delivery.
