PURPOSE
This bulletin describes the procedure for correcting a squeaking noise coming from the combination meter area of some 1989 Galant vehicles when traveling over rough roads. This squeak comes from between the combination meter bezel and the combination meter housing. This condition has been corrected in production as of March 1, 1989.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Unscrew the Trip Meter Reset Knob.
2. Remove the 2 installation screws, and then remove the meter bezel by using a plastic trim tool in the location shown in figure 1.
CAUTION:
EXCESSIVE FORCE WILL DAMAGE THE BEZEL!

3. Loosen the 4 combination meter mounting screws 2 turns. Carefully push the combination meter upward and while holding the combination meter up, tighten the 4 mounting screws (Figure 2).

4. Cut off a 4 inch piece of electrical tape and wrap it around the lower projection of the combination meter (Figure 3).
5. Cut off 4 (four) 1 inch pieces of electrical tape. Place and layer each piece over the top of the upper projection of the combination meter (Figure 3).
6. Reinstall the bezel.
7. Carefully reinstall the trip meter knob. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
