1. Thoroughly clean kickdown servo cover area.
2. Remove kickdown servo switch, then the snap ring and servo cover.
3. Loosen kickdown servo locknut.
4. Hold kickdown servo piston using holding tool No. MD998902 or equivalent while torquing piston adjusting screw to 7.2 ft. lbs. using adapter tool No. MD998901 or equivalent, Fig. 9. Back off adjusting screw, then torque to 3.6 ft. lbs.
5. Repeat step 4, then back off adjusting screw 2-2 1/4 turns.
6. Torque locknut to 18-23 ft. lbs. while preventing piston from turning.
7. On 1989-91 models, install new O-ring in groove surrounding kickdown servo switch, then install kickdown servo switch to the case, and install snap ring.
