Removal and Replacement
1. Drain transaxle fluid as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/CHANGING FLUID.2. Remove air filter assembly, then disconnect control cable from transaxle.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable and all electrical connectors from transaxle case.
4. Disconnect starter motor wiring and remove starter motor.
5. Remove air compressor.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Remove stabilizer bar. On KM175 and KM177 transaxles disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle using puller tool No. MB991113 or equivalent. On KM 176 transaxle disconnect tie rod from steering knuckle using puller tool No. MB990635 or equivalent.
8. On models with KM175 and KM177 transaxles, disconnect lower ball joint from steering knuckle using puller tool No. MB991113 or equivalent. On models with KM176 transaxle disconnect lower ball joint from steering knuckle using puller tool No. MB990635 or equivalent.
9. On all models, remove right and left driveshafts from transaxle and position aside.
10. Remove driveshaft circlips from transaxle case.
11. Remove undercover, then the bellhousing cover.
12. Remove torque converter to driveplate attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft as necessary to gain access to all three bolts. After removing attaching bolts, push transaxle into transaxle to avoid leaving torque converter in engine.
13. Disconnect oil cooler lines from transaxle. Cap oil cooler lines immediately after disconnecting to prevent contamination.
14. Support lower part of transaxle using a suitable jack, then remove transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
15. Remove transaxle mount insulator attaching bolts.
16. Slide transaxle to the right, then lower assembly from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install. Install torque converter first into transaxle, then to engine.
