Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Thermo Sensors

Fig. 21 Testing Double Terminal Thermo Sensors:

1. Drain cooling system, then remove thermo sensors from radiator.
2. Submerge sensor end of thermo sensor as shown in Fig. 21.
3. Connect ohmmeter across thermo sensor terminals.
4. Continuity should exist at approximately 185°F, and no continuity at 172-183°F or less.

Condenser Fan Relay

Fig. 34 Condenser Relay Terminal Identification. Precis:

1. Connect an ohmmeter as shown in Fig. 34, no continuity should exist between terminals L and B.
2. Apply battery voltage between terminals S1 and S2, continuity should then exist between terminals L and B.

Radiator Fan Motors

Fig. 35 Radiator Fan Motor Terminal Identification. Precis:

1. Connect battery voltage to radiator cooling fan motor as shown in Fig. 35.
2. Ensure that motor is operating properly.

Condenser Fan Motor

Fig. 36 Condenser Fan Motor Terminal Identification. Precis:

Connect ohmmeter to terminal of condenser motor as shown in Fig. 36. Ensure continuity exist between motor terminal + and -.
