Unit Disassembly and Reassembly
Disassembled View Of Breakerless Type Distributor:
DISASSEMBLY:
1. Lightly clamp the distributor in a vise equipped with soft jaws.
Vacuum Advance R&R:
2. Pull off the rotor from the rotor shaft.
3. Remove the two vacuum controller mounting screws.
Igniter R&R:
4. Remove two mounting screws and remove igniter.
5. Remove lead wire (black).
6. Remove link of controller from pin on the breaker plate, then remove controller.
7. Remove the signal rotor shaft screw and breaker plate retaining screws.
Breaker Plate Removal:
8. Remove the signal rotor shaft and breaker plate assembly.
Signal Rotor Removal:
9. Remove signal rotor shaft from signal rotor.
Centrifugal Advance (Governor) Unit:
10. Remove two spring retainers with pliers and then remove governor springs.
11. Remove governor weights.
12. Mark location of drive gear on distributor shaft.
Distributor Drive Gear Removal:
13. Drive out the roll pin by using a pin punch.
14. Remove drive gear and washer
15. Remove distributor shaft from housing.
REASSEMBLY:
DISTRIBUTOR SHAFT:
After coating the shaft with a small amount of engine oil, insert the shaft into the distributor housing.
CAUTION: Do not use solvent or similar products.
DRIVE GEAR:
1. Align the drive gear with the mark made at the time of disassembly, and install the gear to the distributor shaft.
2. When aligning the drive gear's mating mark to the housing's mark, be sure that the notch "A" at the rotor end of the shaft is in the position shown in the (Distributor assembly Marks) image. If no errors where made in either the marking or alignment procedures the pin holes should align properly. Drive in a new roll pin.
GOVERNOR AND PLATE ASSEMBLY:
Centrifugal Advance (Governor) Unit:
1. Install governor weights on the governor plate.
2. Install governor springs and spring retainer.
3. Install signal rotor shaft into distributor shaft.
Breaker Plate Alignment:
4. Install breaker plate into housing. Fit the breaker plate so that the projection (A) fits into the groove (B).
5. Tighten the breaker plate screws.
Signal Rotor (Reluctor) R&R:
6. Install signal rotor to rotor shaft. Fit the signal rotor so that the dowel pin fits on the rotor shaft.
Igniter R&R:
7. Install ignitor to breaker plate and install two screws.
8. Connect one end of lead wire to igniter attaching screw and other end to breaker plate.
Igniter, Signal Rotor, and Air Gap Overview:
9. Adjust air-gap between signal rotor and pick-up of igniter. DO NOT use a feeler gauge that is affected by magnetic effects.
AIR GAP: 0.8 mm (0.03 in.)
10. Connect vacuum control link to breaker plate and tighten two vacuum controller screws.
