Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery cables, then remove battery and battery tray from vehicle.
2. On turbocharged models, remove air cleaner case.
3. On all models, disconnect kickdown cable from engine and control cable from transaxle.
4. Disconnect inhibitor switch electrical connector, oil cooler lines and speedometer cable from transaxle. Plug oil cooler lines to prevent contamination.
5. Disconnect starter motor wiring harness, then remove upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts from transaxle.
6. Remove starter motor attaching bolts and the starter motor.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove undercover, then drain transaxle fluid into a suitable container.
9. Disconnect stabilizer bar from lower arm, then unfasten lower arm ball joint connection.
10. Remove right and left driveshafts from transaxle and position aside.
11. Remove bellhousing cover, then the torque converter to driveplate attaching bolts. Rotate crankshaft as necessary to gain access to all three bolts. After removing attaching bolts, push torque converter into transaxle to avoid leaving the converter in the engine.
12. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then remove remaining engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
13. Remove transaxle mount insulator bolt, then the mount bracket from transaxle.
14. Slide transaxle to the right, then carefully lower assembly from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install. Install torque converter first to the transaxle, then to the engine.
