Unit Disassembly and Reassembly

Distributor Components:






DISASSEMBLY:

1. Lightly clamp the distributor in a vise equipped with soft jaws.
2. Unscrew the rotor from the governor base.
3. Remove the vacuum controller mounting screws.

Centrifugal Advance (governor) Unit:





4. Mark the two governor springs for reassembly and then remove them.
5. Remove governor weights.
6. remove link of vacuum controller from pin on the stator, then remove controller.
7. Remove the governor base screw.
8. Remove the governor base and signal rotor assembly.
9. Remove mounting screws and remove igniter and pick-up coil.

Stator Removal:





10. Loosen the stator mounting screws and remove stator. DO NOT place stator in an area where it can attract iron filings.
11. Mark location of drive gear on distributor shaft.
12. Place gear on soft wooden block and using a pin punch, drive out the retaining pin.

Distributor Drive Gear Removal:





13. Remove drive gear and washer
14. Remove distributor shaft from housing.

REASSEMBLY:

DISTRIBUTOR SHAFT:
After coating the shaft with a small amount of engine oil, insert the shaft into the distributor housing.
CAUTION: Do not use solvent or similar products.


DRIVE GEAR:

Distributor Alignment Marks:





1. Align the drive gear with the mark made at the time of disassembly, and install the gear to the distributor shaft.
2. When aligning the drive gear's mating mark to the housing's mark, If no errors where made in either the marking or alignment procedures the pin holes should align properly. Drive in a new roll pin.

GOVERNOR AND PLATE ASSEMBLY:

1. Install stator and tighten screws.
2. Install pick-up coil and ignitor to stator and install screws.
3. Install governor base signal rotor into distributor shaft.
4. .Install governor weights on the governor base signal rotor.
5. Install governor springs.

6. After the governor assembly has been installed, turn the shaft to confirm that the projection of the signal rotor does not touch the stator.
7. Connect vacuum control link to the stator and tighten vacuum controller screws.
