Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

Fig. 3 Steering Lock Special Bolts:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect hood lock release handle.
3. Remove instrument panel undercover.
4. Remove steering column lower cover.
5. Remove instrument cluster hood and upper column cover.
6. Remove steering wheel as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
7. Using a hacksaw, cut special bolts used to secure the steering lock, Fig. 3.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Temporarily install steering lock bracket and steering lock on steering column.
b. Ensure proper operation of steering lock.
c. Tighten special bolts until heads twist off.
