Steering: Description and Operation

The Four Wheel Steering (4WS) system is designed to improve handling under a variety of conditions by adding steering control to the vehicle's rear wheels. A conventional steering gear is utilized to control front wheel steering; the addition of a vane type rear oil pump and hydraulic double action power cylinder allows full four wheel steering control. The power cylinder acts as a rear wheel steering gear.
