Cylinder Head Assembly: Testing and Inspection
1. Before cleaning the cylinder head, check for possible engine coolant or gas leak, damage, and cracks.
2. Completely remove oil, scale, sealant, and carbon deposits. After the oil passages have been flushed, blow air into the passages to ensure that they are not plugged.
3. Using a straight edge and feeler gauge, check the cylinder head bottom surface for flatness. Flatness should be within 0.05 mm (0.002 inch), and wear limit is 0.2 mm (0.008 inch). If it warps excessively, correct by grinding up to 0.2 mm (0.008 inch) combined with block deck grinding. The height of a new cylinder head is 131.9 - 132.1 mm (5.193 - 5.201 inch).
