Engine Starting By Override Function
Engine Starting by OVERRIDE FunctionIf the customer does not have access to a properly coded ignition key (lost or misplaced), the engine can still be started with a nontransponder key. This is only a temporary fix.
Required Items
- Non-transponder key blank
- Vehicle's key code for cutting new keys
- The vehicle specific, four digit immobilizer brake code*
Note: For the immobilizer brake code marked with * above, contact the MMSA techline.
Procedure
1. Cut a temporary key using the key blank and the key code.
2. Using the temporary key, turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
3. Enter the first digit of the four digit immobilizer brake code by pressing and releasing the brake pedal (stoplight switch turns ON/OFF) that number of times within 30 seconds. For example, if the first digit is "4", press and release the brake pedal 4 times within five seconds intervals. Also, if the first digit is "0", let 30 seconds elapse without presing the brake pedal.
4. Check the security indicator light is blinking three times. The blinking shows the first digit is stored in the immobilizer-ECU.
5. Enter the second digit of the immobilizer brake code by pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
6 Check the security indicator light is blinking three times.
7. Repeat step 3 - 6 to enter the third and fourth digits. You have 30 seconds to enter each digit.
8. After finishing the fourth digit, security indicator light will be ON. If the immobilizer brake code was not correct, security indicator light would be blinking.
9. After you turn the ignition switch to "ACC" position, the security indicator light should be ON. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position while security indicator light is ON (approximately five seconds).
Note; Even after you have turned the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) or "ACC" position, if you return the ignition switch to "ON" position while the security indicator light is on, engine startable condition continues. If the security indicator is off, make an entry of the immobilizer brake code again.
10. Turn the ignition switch to "START" position to start the engine.
