Engine Replacement

PICKUP w/Z24 ENGINE



1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
3. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect all hoses and electrical connectors necessary for engine removal.
4. Remove under cover, then drain cooling system.
5. Disconnect all hoses and lines from radiator, then remove radiator with shroud.
6. On models equipped with air conditioning, unfasten compressor and position aside. Never discharge refrigerant from air conditioning system while work is being performed.
7. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump.
8. On models equipped with manual transmission, remove shift lever.
9. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect shift rod at manual shaft.
10. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors from transmission case.
11. Remove clutch operating cylinder and exhaust tube.
12. Disconnect parking brake cable from brake lever side.
13. Mark relationship between propeller shaft and rear axle companion flange and remove propeller shaft. Plug opening in rear extension housing to prevent leakage.
14. On 4x4 models, remove front propeller shaft.
15. On all models, attach suitable engine lifting equipment and lift engine to relieve weight from mounts.
16. On 4x4 models, support front differential carrier with a suitable jack. Remove differential mounting bolts and support member, then carefully lower differential from vehicle.
17. On all models, remove rear engine mounting support-to-body attaching bolts and the front engine mounting bolts.
18. Remove engine and transmission as an assembly from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
