Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation

The electrical components of the fuel system (injectors [2], fuel pump, fuel pump relay, idle-up solenoid and fast idle control device) are controlled by the Electronic Concentrated Engine Control (ECCS) computer (ECU). The operation of the control circuits are discussed in Computers and Control Systems.
The fuel system is designed to allow delivery of a precise amount of air/fuel mixture in response to the throttle valve opening and engine operating conditions. The fuel system consists of the following components:
^ Accelerator pedal
^ Air cleaner
^ Dash pot
^ Fast idle control device (FICD)
^ Fuel filter
^ Fuel injectors
^ Fuel pressure regulator
^ Fuel pump
^ Fuel pump relay
^ Fuel supply lines
^ Fuel return lines
^ Fuel tank
^ Idle-Up control solenoid
^ Throttle chamber
^ Throttle cable
