C.Wire Harness Routing and Connections

FIGURE 8:

1 . Lay out the wiring harness, remove any tangles, and separate the long black trunkswitch wire.

2. Refer to figure 8. Route the large connector under the driver's seat carpet along the back of the crossmember. Connect it to the electronic module. Route the 5-pin connector to the status monitor panel location: either to the console or forward along the door sill to the dash. Connect to the status monitor panel harness. Tiewrap surplus harness together. Separate the single BLACK trunkswitch wire. Route the remaining harnesses forward along the doorsill towards the dash. Unscrew the plastic harness cover and follow existng vehicle wiring.



3. Route the VSS harnesses over to the steering column along existing vehicle wiring. HARNESSES MUST NOT INTERFERE WITH STEERING COLUMN OR FOOT PEDAL MOVEMENT. Connect the 4-wire harness as follows:

RED...Connect with a BLUE Scotchlok to RED/WHITE headlamp L/H wire at violet lighting switch 11-pin connector (242M).
GREEN ... Ground to lower front bolt of hood release bracket or any convenient ground point behind
the kick panel.



ORANGE ... Connect with a RED Scotchlok to the BLUE/BLACK washer motor wire at the 8 pin
wiper/washer connector (240 M).
GRAY ... Following the existing wiring, route the GRAY VSS wire back down along the door sill to the exposed harness just behind the underseat crossmember. Unwrap 3" of tape on the vehicle harness.

Truck: Connect with a RED Scotchlok to the RED/BLACK doorswitch wire.

2 - Door Pathfinder: There are three RED/BLACK wires at this location. Two of them will operate the VSS, the other will not. Select one and connect the GRAY VSS wire with a RED Scotchlok. Opening each door should make the intrude LED on the electronic module illuminate. If it does not illuminate, remove the Scotchlok connection and select another RED/BLACK wire. Wrap the first wire with electrical tape.

4 - Door Pathfinder: There are four RED/BLACK wires at this location. Three of them will operate the VSS, the other will not. Select one and connect the GRAY VSS wire with a RED Scotchlok. Opening each door should make the intrude LED on the efectmnic module illuminate. If it does not illuminate, remove the Scotchlok connection and select another RED/BLACK wire. Wrap the first wire with electrical tape.



YELLOW...Connect with a BLUE Scotchlok to the PINK/BLUE clearance lamp wire at the violet lighting switch 11-pin connector (242 M). Bottom row, 2nd position from left.
DARK GREEN/BLACK...Connect with a BLUE Scotchlok to the LIGHT GREEN/BLACK horn wire on the single-pin connector (241 M) below the combination switch.

4. Hood Pinswitch Wire Routing

Route the BLACK hood pinswitch wire into the engine compartment through the hood release cable grommet. Route the wire through existing tiewraps to the pinswitch. Connect the pinswitch. Check operation. Pull any excess wire back into the underdash area.

5. Black VSS Truckswitch Wire

Cut the BLACK truckswitch wire about 1 inch from the 15 pin vss connector and wrap the exposed end with electrical tape.

D. CHECK OUT THE INSTALLATION AS SHOWN IN THE INSTALLATION CHECKOUT SECTION.

E. REPLACE TRIM

Reversing the preparation procedures, replace carpeting, trim panels, driver's seat, and seat belt bolt.

Note: Washer and spacer are positioned UNDER the seat belt anchor.

Torque: Driver's Seat Bolts: 15-20 ft.lbs. (21-26 N-m, 2.1-2.7 Kg-m)
Seat Belt Bolt: 26.4-33.6 ft.lbs. (35.8-45.6 N-m, 3.65-4.65Kg-m)
