Idle Up Control Valve: Description and Operation

FICD Solenoid:

PURPOSE
Increases idle speed when the A/C compressor is engaged.

OPERATION
When voltage is applied to the coil of the A/C compressor clutch, voltage is also supplied to the Idle Air Control-Fast Idle Control Device (IAC-FICD). The IAC-FICD becomes energized and opens an additional air pasage. Air by-passes the throttle valve, thereby raising idle speed to compensate for the increased load of the A/C compressor.

CONSTRUCTION
The IAC-FICD Valve is part of the Idle Air Adjusting (IAA) unit made up of the following components:
- Idle Air Control Valve-Auxiliary Air Control Valve (IAC-AAC)
- Idle Air Control Valve-Fast Idle Control Device (IAC-FICD)
- Idle Speed Adjusting Screw
