HOW TO DISPLAY AND READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
Overview

Operation Of MIL ( Malfunction Indicator Light):

Diagnostic trouble codes can be read by switching to Diagnostic Test Mode II with key ON engine OFF.

Wavelength For Codes P0102 And P0403:

Wavelength For Code P1003:

- The number of blinks of the malfunction indicator lamp represent trouble codes in the Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-Diagnostic Results). (Either code for the 1st trip or the 2nd trip can be read.)

- Output of a diagnostic trouble code means that the indicated circuit has a malfunction. However, using Mode II or a generic scan tool (GST) will not indicate whether the malfunction is still occurring, or occurred in the past and then returned to normal.

NOTES:
- Diagnostic trouble codes displayed in Diagnostic Test Mode II are assigned by NISSAN and differ from the standard OBDII "P type" codes normally displayed with CONSULT or Generic Scan Tools.

- Switching the modes is not possible when the engine is running.

- When Ignition switch is turned off during diagnosis, power to Engine Control Module (ECM) will drop after approx. 5 seconds.
The diagnosis will automatically return to Diagnostic Test Mode I but stored codes will remain in ECM memory unless the "Erase" procedure is executed.

- Turn back diagnostic test mode selector to the fully counterclockwise position whenever vehicle is in use.
