With Generic Scan Tool
HOW TO ERASE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES WITH GENERIC SCAN TOOL (GST)NOTES:
- If a DTC is displayed for both the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the A/T control unit, the code must be erased from each control module/unit separately, using different step procedures.
- If the diagnostic trouble code is not for A/T related items, skip step 2.
- Mode 4 on the GST may only clear engine control/emission related DTCs. Transmission control related DTCs may have to be cleared by manually initiating the transmission self-diagnostic procedure. If the transmission fault is no longer present or has been repaired, the DTC for that fault will be erased while the transmission self-diagnostic sequence is running.
- If the battery terminal is disconnected, the diagnostic trouble code will be lost within 24 hours.
Procedure
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) can be erased by the following method.
1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" (engine stopped) again.
2. Clear A/T related DTCs by initiating the (transmission) A/T self-diagnostic procedure shown below.

(Part 2) A/T Self Diagnostic Procedure:
A/T SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. (The engine warm-up step can be skipped when the self-diagnosis sequence is run to only erase DTCs.)
