Fuel Injector Cooling Fan: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 80 Checking auxillary fan motor timer unit.:
1. Cycle ignition switch from ON position to OFF to operate auxiliary fan timer.
2. Disconnect water temperature switch wire connector and connect a jumper wire between connector terminal and ground.
3. Cooling fan should operate. If not, check fan motor and timer unit.
4. To check fan motor, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect battery ground cable.
b. Disconnect fan motor lead wires, then connect a 12 volt battery between fan motor lead wires and check motor operation.
c. Fan motor should operate. If not check timer unit.
5. Check fan motor unit using a 12 volt battery and test lamp, Fig. 80, as follows:
a. Connect battery negative terminal to timer terminal 6, then connect test lamp between timer terminal 5 and battery ground. Connect battery positive terminal to timer terminal 1 and note is test lamp is illuminated. If test lamp is illuminated, replace timer. If test lamp is not illuminated, proceed to step b.
b. Connect battery positive terminal to timer terminal 2 to operate timer, then disconnect. Proceed to step c.
c. With test lamp connected between timer terminal 5 and battery ground cable, connect a jumper wire from battery ground terminal to timer terminal 3. If test lamp is not illuminated, replace timer. If test lamp is illuminated, timer is satisfactory.
NOTE: The fan motor timer is located in side the right hand side dash panel.
