Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect torsion shaft from accelerator linkage, if necessary.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove propeller shaft.
5. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
6. Remove selector lever from manual shaft.
7. Disconnect inhibitor switch wiring.
8. Disconnect vacuum tube from diaphragm, and the downshift switch wiring.
9. On 1981 Maxima, disconnect overdrive solenoid and overdrive indicator switch wiring.
10. On all vehicles, disconnect speedometer cable from extension housing.
11. Disconnect oil charging pipe.
12. On 200SX, 300ZX and Pickup, disconnect governor tube at converter housing and transmission case.
13. On all models, disconnect oil cooler pipes from transmission case.
14. Support engine with suitable jack.
15. Support transmission with suitable jack.
16. Remove engine to transmission brackets, if equipped.
17. Remove converter housing cover.
18. Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts.
19. Lower and remove transmission from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install.
