Engine Replacement


1. On models equipped with CA20E engine, release fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Start engine, then disconnect fuel pump electrical connector, located under assist seat.
b. After engine stalls, crank engine 2 or 3 times.
c. Turn ignition switch Off, then reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
2. On all models, disconnect battery cables, then remove radiator reservoir tank, battery and battery support bracket.
3. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
4. Remove air cleaner and fresh air duct. Plug air horn of carburetor to prevent contamination.
5. Remove undercover, then drain engine coolant.
6. Remove radiator with fan.
7. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump.
8. On models equipped with A/C, remove A/C compressor and idler pulley. Do not discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
9. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
10. On manual transaxle models, disconnect control rod link support rod from transaxle.
11. On automatic transaxle models, disconnect control wire from transaxle.
12. Disconnect clutch wire, then remove speedometer cable with pinion from transaxle.
13. Disconnect accelerator linkage, then remove EGR valve with bracket.
14. Disconnect all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses necessary for engine removal.
15. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
16. Disconnect both driveshafts from transaxle.
17. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment to engine.
18. Disconnect engine mounting insulators and buffer rod, then lift engine from vehicle and separate from transaxle.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
