Engine Replacement

1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Remove relay bracket, then start engine and disconnect fuel pump relay electrical connector, Fig. 1. After engine stalls, crank engine momentarily, then turn ignition switch to the Off position and reconnect fuel pump relay. If engine will not start, disconnect fuel pump relay and crank engine for approximately five seconds, then turn ignition switch off.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove hood.
4. Drain cooling system and oil pan.
5. Remove air cleaner ducts.
6. Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses.
7. Remove air cleaner and air flow meter assembly.
8. Disconnect carbon canister hoses.
9. Remove radiator and shroud.
10. On models equipped with automatic transmission:
a. Remove splash board.
b. Disconnect oil cooler lines from radiator.
c. Disconnect vacuum hose.
11. On models equipped with A/C and power steering:
a. Remove power steering pump and bracket.
b. Remove A/C compressor and bracket.
12. Disconnect accelerator cable from car.
13. Disconnect the following cables and hoses: engine ground cable, starter motor wiring, EGR solenoid wire, fuel injector wiring, throttle valve switch wiring, BCDD wiring, high tension wire between ignition coil and distributor, wire to block terminal distributor harness, wire to thermostat housing, vacuum cutting solenoid wiring, cold start valve wiring, air regulator wiring, fuel hoses, heater hoses, Master-Vac vacuum hose, alternator wiring, oil pressure switch wiring, back-up lamp switch wiring, neutral switch wiring, top switch wiring, inhibitor switch housing and downshift solenoid wiring.
14. Disconnect speedometer cable.
15. If equipped with manual transmission, remove C-ring and shift lever pin from transmission striking rod, then the shift lever.
16. If equipped with automatic transmission disconnect range lever.
17. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
18. Remove exhaust pipe bracket from rear mounting insulator.
19. Remove propeller shaft center bearing bracket and the propeller shaft.
20. Support transmission with a suitable jack.
21. Remove bolts securing rear engine crossmember to body.
22. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment to engine and raise engine slightly.
23. Remove front engine mount bolts.
24. Remove engine and transmission assembly from vehicle.
25. Reverse procedure to install.
