Compressor Replacement


Operate compressor for 10-15 minutes, if possible, with engine at idle speed, A/C control set for maximum cooling, blower on high speed, and windows open, in order to return refrigerant oil to compressor. When installing new compressor, drain all oil from new and old compressors and add same amount of oil to new compressor as was removed from old compressor.



1. Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.
2. Loosen A/C idler pulley and remove compressor drive belt.
3. Disconnect wiring harness connector to compressor.
4. Disconnect refrigerant lines at compressor and plug lines and open fittings.
5. Remove upper compressor mounting bolts.
6. Raise and support front of vehicle and remove splash pan.
7. Support compressor and remove lower mounting bolts.
8. Lower rear of compressor and remove compressor from under vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install, then evacuate and recharge system.
