The detonation sensor is installed in the side of the cylinder block Fig. 45. It converts the vibrations caused by pressure in the combustion chamber into electrical signals. If the engine knocks while operating, the abnormal vibration will be detected by the detonation sensor. This signal is then sent to the control unit to retard the ignition timing to prevent further knocking.
