Extended Warranty Owner's Notification Letter
Dear Nissan Owner:Our records show that you own or have previously owned a 1983 Nissan Pulsar NX with a factory installed turbocharger.
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE PROPER CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR TURBOCHARGED PULSAR NX, AND A NEW TURBOCHARGER WARRANTY WHICH COULD APPLY TO YOUR VEHICLE.
While turbocharging provides special benefits, it also requires special care. All turbocharged engines require more frequent oil and oil filter changes. Also some special driving techniques on the part of the driver are required.
FREQUENT ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGES:
The turbocharger features precision, full-floating bearings which require a supply of clean oil. Therefore, engine oil changes are required more often than non-turbocharged engines. Under normal conditions, turbocharged engines require an oil change every 3,750 miles, as stated in your Owner's Manual.
TURNING OFF YOUR ENGINE
A turbocharged engine should only be turned off after it has reached idle RPM, this will prevent the turbocharger bearings from being damaged.
ALLOW TURBOCHARGER TO COOL
Another potential problem pertaining to turbocharger lubrication is "coking". After driving a turbocharged vehicle for long, sustained, highway-speed, high-load driving condition, such as climbing a long steep grade, the turbocharger is directly exposed to very hot engine exhaust. With the engine off, the heat may transfer into the center of the turbocharger housing, where it "cokes" or "boils" the oil. The "coked" oil builds up on the turbine shaft and bearings which interferes with normal lubrication flow.
To avoid coking and the possibility of turbocharger failure, let the engine idle for a few minutes to allow the turbocharger to be cooled by circulating oil.
STARTING YOUR ENGINE
When first starting your engine, allow it to idle. Do not rev up the engine excessively or drive it at high engine speeds until it has warmed up, especially during cold winter months.
