Compressor Replacement
Operate compressor for 10-15 minutes, if possible, with engine at idle speed, A/C control set for maximum cooling, blower on high speed, and windows open, in order to return refrigerant oil to compressor. When installing new compressor, drain all oil from new and old compressors and add same amount of oil to new compressor as was removed from old compressor.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle and remove splash pan.
3. Remove bolts securing compressor revolution sensor, disconnect wiring harness connector, and remove sensor.
4. Loosen A/C idler pulley and remove drive belt from compressor pulley.
5. Disconnect wiring harness connector to compressor clutch.
6. Disconnect refrigerant lines at compressor and plug lines and open fittings.
7. Remove compressor mounting bolts and lower compressor from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Drain oil from both new and old compressors and add same amount of new refrigerant oil as was drained from old compressor.
b. Torque bolts securing refrigerant lines to 10-13 ft.lbs.
c. Rotate compressor shaft several revolutions by hand before installing drive belt.
d. Evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.
