Cooling System: Service and Repair

Heater Controls:





WARNING: To avoid being scalded, allow the engine to cool before performing the following procedure.

1. Open the heater valve:
a. Manual A/C: Slide the temperature control lever to the "HOT" position.
b. Automatic A/C: Turn the key to the ON position and set the temperature at maximum. Turn the key OFF.

Draining Radiator:





2. Remove the radiator cap.
3. Open the radiator drain (on L.H. side).

L.H. Block Drain:





4. Open the LH and RH engine block drains (LH shown, RH similar).
5. After the coolant has drained completely, tighten the block and radiator drains.

Cooling System Bleed Screw:





6. Open the bleeder screw, located on the R.R. corner of the intake plenum near the EGR valve.
7. Pour one (1) gallon of coolant into the radiator opening. This will provide approximately a 50% mixture ratio.
8. Add water to the radiator until it flows out of the bleeder screw, then close it.
9. Install the radiator cap.
10. Fill the reservoir tank with water up to the "MAX" level.
11. Start the engine.

Heater Controls:





12. Open the heater valve:
a. Manual A/C: Slide the temperature control lever to the "HOT" position.
b. Automatic A/C: Turn the heat/vent system ON and set the temperature at maximum.
13. Operate the engine at 2000 rpm until the radiator fan comes on and off two times.
14. Turn the engine off and allow the engine to cool.
15. Re-fill the reservoir to the "MAX" level.
