Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain coolant and disconnect water hose.
3. Set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke.
4. Remove valve timing belt on camshaft pulley side and remove injection timing belt as described under ``Timing Belt, Replace,'' noting the following:
a. Ensure timing belt is free from oil and water and do not bend belt.
b. Timing belt removed from camshaft pulley should not be rotated from removed position.
5. Loosen injection pump pulley nut and remove pulley.
6. Remove rear cover.
7. Remove all injection tubes.

8. Remove cylinder head, loosening attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 1.
INSTALLATION
Install cylinder head in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
1. Install cylinder head with new gasket, torquing bolts first to 43-51 ft. lbs., then to 72-80 ft. lbs., in sequence described under "Engine Assembly."
2. Install valve timing belt and injection pump timing belt as described under "Timing Belt, Replace."
