Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery cables, then remove battery, with support bracket, from vehicle.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
3. Remove air cleaner.
4. Drain engine coolant, then remove radiator with cooling fan.
5. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump.
6. On models equipped with air conditioning, remove compressor and idler pulley. Do not discharge refrigerant from air conditioning system when work is being performed.
7. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
8. On manual transaxle models, disconnect control rod link support rod from transaxle.
9. On automatic transaxle models, disconnect control wire from transaxle.
10. Remove lower ball joint, then drain gear oil.
11. Loosen strut head bolts and disconnect both drive shafts from transaxle.
12. Disconnect clutch wire, then remove speedometer cable with pinion from transaxle.
13. Disconnect accelerator cable and all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses necessary for engine removal.
14. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel pump.
15. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine.
16. Disconnect engine mounting insulators, then remove engine and transaxle, as an assembly, from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
