Diesel Injection Timing Belt

Fig. 3 Installing injection timing belt:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner housing with air duct.
3. Set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke.
4. Set tensioner to free position, then remove timing belt.
5. Install timing belt as follows:
a. Clean all parts that contact timing belt.
b. Ensure timing belt is clean and free from oil or dust.
c. Place mark at 23rd cog on timing belt, if necessary, Fig. 3.
d. Align each mark.
e. Loosen tensioner and turn crankshaft two times in normal rotating direction.
f. Tighten tensioner while counterholding it.
