Removal And Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support engine, then remove right side engine mount.
3. Set No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke.
4. Remove alternator and compressor drive belt.
5. Remove crank damper pulley.
6. Remove timing belt as follows:
a. Loosen tensioner pulley and set it to free position.
b. Remove idler pulley.
c. Remove crankshaft pulley with timing belt.
7. Install timing belt as follows:
a. Clean all parts that contact timing belt.
b. Ensure timing belt is clean and free from oil or dust.
c. When installing crank pulley plate, ensure proper direction.
8. Place a mark at 39th cog on timing belt as necessary, Fig. 2.
9. Align each mark and install crankshaft pulley with timing belt.
10. Install idler pulley.
11. Loosen tensioner bolt and turn crankshaft two times in its normal rotating direction.
12. Tighten tensioner while counterholding it.
